Kawale Police engage kabaza operators

Kawale Police Station and its lower formation Area 24 Police Unit have asked motorcycle (kabaza) taxi operators in Area 24 to ensure safety when serving their customers.

Speaking on Thursday in Area 24 Township, Area 24 Police Unit officer-in-charge Augustine Yobe said kabaza operators should take precautions to avoid accidents and attacks from robbers.

He said: “We have seen kabaza operators riding irresponsibly and carrying more than one passenger.

“Some even don’t wear helmets. This is dangerous.”

Yobe also asked the operators to avoid working late into the night.

On his part, Kawale Police Station executive committee vice-chairperson Elvin Kawale asked kabaza operators to register their motorbikes before the October 28 deadline.

“This will help police to trace the bikes easily in case they are targeted by criminals,” he said.

Area 24 Kabaza rank chairperson Solomon Kasinja said they will abide by the rules to ensure their safety.

“We will encourage operators to wear helmets and register their bikes,” he said.

Sese Ward councillor Gift Dzaone Tanganyika asked kabaza operators to be tidy.

“I also appeal to them to report to police any suspicious clients to address robbery,” he said.
